About the Gaelic Games Sports Science Working Group

Speaker Biographies

Holly Silvers-Granelli, MPT, PhD

Holly J. Silvers-Granelli is a board certified Physical Therapist specializing in sports orthopaedic rehabilitation in Santa Monica, CA. She completed her PhD in Applied Physiology and Biomechanics at the University of Delaware. She is a current member of United States Soccer Federation’s Medical Team, the chair of Major League Soccer’s Medical Assessment Research Committee (M-MARC) and a member of the International Cartilage Research Society’s Rehabilitation Committee. She is also the spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association’s task-force on ACL Prevention. In addition, she is a rehabilitation consultant for Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and the Los Angeles Galaxy. She is also serving a research advisory role to Major League Baseball for hamstring injury prevention efforts.

Currently, she is the owner of Velocity Physical Therapy with a primary focus on injury prevention, articular cartilage injury and rehabilitation and the rehabilitation and prevention of hip and groin injury in athletes. Dr. Silvers-Granelli reviews for over twenty scientific journals and has published over 60 peer reviewed articles and scholarly book chapters on the prevention of injury in sport, ACL injury prevention, bio-mechanical assessment of injury risk, articular cartilage injury, groin and hip injury and patellofemoral disorders.

Dr. Silvers-Granelli is married to her husband, Dennis, and the proud mother of two wonderful children. She is deeply committed to her active clinical research role and presents at domestic and international conferences regularly.​


Andrew Wallis

Andrew is an APA Sports and Manipulative Physiotherapist who is currently employed at St. Kilda Football Club (since 2007) and works privately at Melbourne Orthopaedic Group Sports Medicine. Over the last 20 years, Andrew has worked in both a clinical setting and within the elite sporting environment at Melbourne Victory, Adelaide Thunderbirds, SACA Redbacks, V8 Supercars, triathlon and athletics.

Andrew works closely with several of Melbourne’s leading surgeons and Sports Physicians and over the years has developed a special interest in hip and groin pathology. This has led to the development of an evidence-based assessment and treatment model. This may include conservative management of conditions such as femoroacetabular impingement and hip dysplasia or post-operative rehabilitation following hip arthroscopy, peri-acetabular osteotomy, total hip replacement/resurfacing, femoral osteotomy etc.

Andrew also enjoys treating problems related to lower limb biomechanics, knee, ankle and foot pathology.

In addition to clinical work, he works as clinical supervisor on the Master’s program at La Trobe University.

Dr. Bryan Heiderscheit

Dr. Bryan Heiderscheit is a Professor in the Departments of Orthopedics & Rehabilitation and Biomedical Engineering, and Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the Director of Research for UW Badger Athletic Performance, and provides care for athletes of all ages with running-related injuries at UW Health Sports Rehabilitation.


Sinéad Goldrick

Sinéad Goldrick plays for Melbourne Football Club in the AFLW. Sinead is a former senior Dublin ladies' footballer. She captained Dublin in the 2014 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship Final and was a member of the Dublin teams that won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was also a member of the Dublin team that won the 2018 Ladies' National Football League. In 2019 she won her seventh All Star award. During the 2010s she was also a prominent member of the Foxrock–Cabinteely team that won Dublin and Leinster titles and played in All-Ireland finals. In October 2019 it was announced that Goldrick has agreed to play for Melbourne Football Club of the AFLW in 2020.


Eamon O'Reilly

Eamon is Clinical Lead Physiotherapist at Sports Physiotherapy & Athletic Rehab Clinic. Eamon founded SPARC Ireland in 2016 to share his passion for athlete rehabilitation and physiotherapy. With clinics in Sandyford and Rathfarnham-Knocklyon, our vision is to create a positive learning environment and culture where athletes grow, improve and benefit long after their injury.

Eamon has a keen interest in performance rehabilitation and has worked with various teams at an elite level. He has worked with the Dublin Senior hurling team since 2011, and has also worked with a range of other intercounty teams on a consultation basis. He has worked with the Irish International Rules team for 3 different series and works with athletes of all sporting codes. He has also been involved in physiotherapy services for the Irish high performance boxing teams. Eamon is currently serving on the GAA's national medical, scientific and welfare committee, the national sports science committee and is chair of the physiotherapy & rehabilitation workgroup


Helen McElroy

Helen McElroy is Clinic Director at Physiofocus Northern Ireland. Helen obtained a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Ulster University in 2008. She went on to complete an MSc In sports physio in UCD in 2012 and a PhD focusing on hip and groin pain in athletes in 2017. She has worked across NHS and private settings in Northern Ireland and New Zealand and has also worked across multiple sports at club, county, regional and national level.

Helen sits on the UK physios in sport committee as the Northern Ireland representative and is also a member of the education committee, which is responsible for education pathways across the UK for physios working in sports medicine.

She has also been a guest lecturer in the physiotherapy and sports medicine masters programmes at Ulster University.

Helen’s main interests are in lower limb rehab and return to play.
